Internal Voting
This morning the vote began by the members of the Movimento5Stelle for the possible participation in the Draghi government by the Movement.
In a sincere way I hope for a positive result, this is for the good work done previously under the Conte government by the Movement with the Partito Democratico and LeU.
I have a little thought about the votes that the Movement is doing. As I have already said, I was positively impressed by the evolution of the Movement during the second Conte government.
I would just like to say a few things about the voting among the members. I am sorry to say this, but it is not something that I am totally in favour of. I do not find the fact of the votes as a representation of what the people, who elected the members of the 5Stelle Movement, want, because precisely having received a mandate from the voters, these, the Parliamentarians, must take responsibility for the choices themselves, which will then have to be evaluated by the electoral base.
Another important point is the fact that there are a limited number of members. If I am not mistaken today, only 100,000 people will have the right to participate in the vote. That is not correct because the electoral base that voted is much larger, and the members are only a small part. That is also a really important point. Those who have been elected must take responsibility for choosing without having to rely on a small part, which could easily also be conditioned. Moreover, for the principle of freedom no one should be forced to sign up for something in order to express their own personal opinion, especially if this opinion is required for influence on the future Res Publica.
My final point concerns the awareness, knowledge and preparation on certain topics by those who are called upon to give their opinion on topics concerning public matters. I find it very risky to refer to someone who is not prepared. I repeat, it is my opinion that the choices must be made by those who have been elected. Those who have been elected are always under the control and judgment of the people. We live in an ever-expanding world, where we have to deal more and more with complex problems.
An individual's intent must be to live his own life. Of course participation in public policy is important, but since the basis is very broad and not having the same interest and being all affected by different factors on the part of life, I do not find it fair that a very limited part of the community is consulted. The intention of this, for a democratic factor, I believe, for participation is perfectly understandable. But in my opinion it is neither democratic nor participating. And also awareness, knowledge of the topics is very important. (Let me give you an example: I live in London. In my opinion, Britain has left Europe for a vote without the necessary knowledge and awareness. Britain's exit from Europe does not necessarily have to be seen as a bad thing. I think that is a mistake, but I am convinced that it will lead to a strengthening of Europe). Awareness and proper knowledge are very important.
In conclusion, I do not think it is right to refer to the members, because those who are elected must rely on the voters. I hope, however, that the M5S will support the Draghi government because it has worked well and deserves it.
Updates very soon.
In the evening, with 59.3% of the votes, the members of the 5 Star Movement decided to support the President in charge Mario Draghi. 74537 members took part in the vote out of a total of 119570
